Omar Pimentel

Omar Pimentel is Director of Frontier Strategy at Type One Ventures, where he leads the firm's strategic markets and global government engagements, investor relations, and portfolio support across the space, dual-use, and deep technology sectors. Working at the intersection of commercial innovation, institutional capital, and national security, he helps strengthen the firm's relationships with strategic partners, industry leaders, investors, and government agencies worldwide, while supporting portfolio companies as they navigate complex regulatory, operational, and government markets. He also advises the firm's leadership on emerging policy, market, and geopolitical developments that shape the future of frontier technologies.

Prior to joining Type One Ventures, Omar served as the Policy and Strategy Lead and Program Manager for the Defense Innovation Unit's Space Portfolio, where he helped bridge the Department of War with the founders, investors, and companies driving the commercial space economy. His work spanned responsive space, orbital return, global sensing and monitoring, advanced manufacturing, and AI-enabled space capabilities, supporting the execution of strategically significant dual-use and classified programs and helping accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies across the national security enterprise.

Earlier in his career, Omar served at NASA Headquarters' Office of Technology Policy and Strategy and in the U.S. House of Representatives, advising on issues related to space policy, national security, foreign affairs, higher education, and appropriations. His experience across government, policy, and innovation has provided him with a unique vantage point on how transformative technologies move from early-stage innovation to institutional adoption.

Omar earned a master’s degree in international policy from Stanford University, where he lead research on multi-domain deterrence, space policy, and semiconductor strategy at the Hoover Institution. He was also an inaugural Defense Innovation Scholar at the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Florida State University, where he returned as an Adjunct Professor of Space Business and Policy.

Omar is a frequent contributor to conversations surrounding the future of dual-use innovation, commercial space, and emerging technologies. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, Florida State football, cooking Dominican food, and reading about space, history, and geopolitics.
